I based my piece on the Greek mythology of Ariadne: the two hands loosely holding a golden string is the thread Ariadne used to guide Theseus out of the Labyrinth and the boat is what they rode on escape to Naxos. For the section dividers, I used different trees as a symbol for different writing genres: olive tree for poetry, birch tree for short story, and oak tree for creative nonfiction. Throughout the designs, I employed the ornative style of Alphonse Mucha to combine classical Greek mythology and modern graphic art. Digitally arranged, my cover art seeks to create a unified visual experience that transcends history and culture to reach the pure beauty of literature. My cover art was chosen and published as the third volume of the Ariadne ISABC Student Literary Journal.
