LIFE OUTSIDE OF ART

HAIR AND MAKEUP

I have been volunteering as a Hair and Makeup Artist for my school's drama productions for 5 years, styling hair, doing stage makeup, and helping out with costume changes. I love the pre-show backstage chaos and excitement as tech-crew runs around looking for another pair of headphones, actors blow a raspberry as part of their vocal warm-up, and us, the hair and makeup team, hurrying about to dab a sponge of blush on Queen Elizabeth's cheeks. Mamma Mia!

SKIING

Though not particularly good at it, evident through my once broken arm, I love the feeling of zooming down a white hill, hearing the howling of wind right near my red ears. My favourite is probably the Kid's Trail at Cyprus Mountain. Albeit I have hit my head on a tree multiple times, I still indulge in the excitement I get when speeding through closely lined trees, flying up and down bumps, and enjoying a fluffy white world on my own.

BAKING

Once you ignore the disastrous kitchen, you can indulge in the sweet aroma of my renowned chocolate-chip cookies and the perfect blend of crunch and cream in my lemon-pies.

I love spending a Sunday afternoon picking out dried-cranberries to top my banana bread, painting the rolled croissants with an egg wash, and whipping the cream for a fresh matcha cake. The process of baking is like an architecture: precise measurement and careful design just to bring the simple, warm feeling of joy.
