LOVE?
2022
video installation
details
Hearing love stories from peers provoked my questioning of whether young love is mere corporal desire or true emotional attraction, especially with mass media romanticizing young couples. To the right is a video installation. Inspired by Tracey Emin and Louis Zhang, I created a broken bottle with grotesque forms reminiscent of twisted bodies, employing pastel colours to reference Rococo paintings of love affairs. Projected behind the sculpture is a film, where a bottle falls and breaks with smoke flowing out. The film is the first experience of love. When the bottle breaks, love is demystified from media portrayal, leaving a mere clump of emotions and bodies. To the left are two performances. In one, I eat a cherry savagely, suggesting how youth are obsessed over the experiences love brings. In another, I kiss the projection of a boy, who is actually a collage of multiple men, pointing to the artificially of online dating.
