ME,OTHERS,AND
THE UNIVERSE

Inspired by Samuel Beckett’s Not I, I used a photo of my eye as a representation of me, exploring the relationship between myself, others around me, and the world in which I live. As a continuation from flower womb, the motif of flower is used here to not only represent myself but also others around me, where the individual identity becomes diminished amongst a sea of flowers. Not only between people, in nature, the individual is also insignificant, either: nature can easily destroy humans, as seen in pandemics and natural disasters. After watching Into the Universe With Stephen Hawking, I wrote in my sketchbook, “With the star coming to an unbearable heat, It bursts into gas and other elements formed from the original helium hydrogen, carbon, and iron clumps. We are made up of the death of stars. We are stars.” Nevertheless, the universe is of infinite stars. Thus, no matter if we are looking at a microcosm or the galaxy, humankind is still only a speck of fleeting life.
