graphite on paper

One of the first few studies made in first level university drawing class. I made models of folded and crumbled paper that resembled the arteries and muscles of the human heart, playing with a contrast between a symbol that commonly signifies power and love with a banal material that screams delicacy. Once drawn with a hard and monotone material as graphite, the paper heart appears ever more fragile and shattered. This drawing thus explores the themes of strength and frailty through contrasts of movement (the folds marks previous crumbling) and stillness; hard and soft.
